To bad you can't install Beta 2 on it.

Applied but still waiting to be accepted for the Vista Beta Testing group. Can't wait to be able to play and help make it even better.

Not true, HP charges more for their AMD Duel Core Processors than both they and DELL charge for their Pentium D Processors, just FYI.

Read the review, HP and DELL are not the only suppliers.
I presume your not from the UK, but.... we got some really good Dual core AMD 4800 with RAID 0 Sata hard disks + NVID 7800 GT GPU + 2GIG RAM, these were bought for vista dev, we paid less that £1000, this was 2 maybe 3 months ago now.
We also got really good laptop, but this was over £2000, so not cheap, but the same spec as the desktop, so not bad for the price.

Intel really have lost the plot, IMO, the architecture of the AMDs dual core is far better than Intel.
We (my company) really did the R&D as we are going to be replacing most of our kit.

It wouldn't have been my choice, but Vista development was a goal for me and GPU perf was key.
Our code compile times, were 6 (sometimes 12) mins with some good dell kit, with our new AMD kit compile times are now less than one minute, but thats down to the disk more than the CPU. that's 300k lines of c# code.
So... due to AMD and very fast DISKS we now all drink less tea.
as long as your happy, that's what counts, but if its pure perf your after, then 7800 AMD RAID 0 SATA is what would count for me.
did you look at the website, its interesting to see how much better the AMD is, and when you look at the cost. well.....

Which would normally be a good reason to avoid the machine. Doesn't PC Mag also accept advertising dollars from Dell?

It just such a bad time to buy a PC, with Intel's Core 2 Arch just around the corner. This isn't your normal "There is always something new" this is a total arch shift which has shown already tremendous performance gains.

It going to be interesting to see how this measures up against the AMD, Intel's current dual core offering is a little poor.

We're having some trouble finding words to describe Merom at the moment. During the last few days we've reported about new records being set, but we were still missing a few benchmarks. We suspected that Kyosen, which has done it again, had some more results coming, this time of a completely new caliber. That it would be this kind of blowout we had no idea, not even our wildest imagination could've come up with something like this. Using Dry ice Intel Merom T7400 was pushed a bit over 3400MHz and with two water cooled X1900 cards Kyosen managed to achieve a completely devastating result with 3DMark2001, 62398 points!
